1600+ Treated, Over a Hundred Receive Christ in Lequigue
By Tim Dunnington
We arrived in Lequigue on July 12, 2009, a warm Sunday afternoon, after a 4 hour bus ride from San Pedro Sula. We had flown in from Miami that morning, but despite the already-long day, we setup the Mission while curious children bounced around us, giggling and peek-a-booing.
The Mission opened the next morning, and hundreds came to receive care and hear the Gospel. The Mission serves people of all ages, including many children, who, though often barefoot and dirty, nonetheless brighten our days with their smiles.
On our final day, just an hour or so before the Mission was to close, a family arrived. They had just walked 4 hours to be at our clinic. The concerned mother was seeking care for her baby boy. His umbilicus was infected, but she could not provide the necessary medical care herself, and the nearest government clinic was beyond reach. With no car and no access to one, she walked herself and all her children to the Honduras Baptist Dental Mission at Lequigue for free medical care. A Mission doctor, assisted by a Mission nurse, quickly performed the short procedure to repair the umbilicus. The whole family was treated and provided medication and a "family pack" containing basic hygiene items, as well as a Bible and other needs.
Every two weeks a team like this one reaches thousands of people, providing basic care to a people in need. By the end of our week, we had seen over 1600 patients. 140 had received Christ through evangelism, some through the church service, others through ordinary workers.
We all received a blessing: the people of Honduras and the Mission workers.
