Pastor Buddy's and Meredith's July Monthly Update

by Meredith Morehead, July 2010

On the last day of this month, Buddy and I will be joining Michael and Alba as full-time missionaries in Honduras. We are both very excited to finally be settling into our new roles together. Many of you know Buddy joined the mission back in December but has been traveling back and forth to North Carolina as he has attended to commitments back in the states. I moved back to my parent’s home as I attended to details of our upcoming move and our daughter’s wedding.

Many of you may not know the story of our love for Honduras and our call as missionaries so allow me give you a brief history. I made my first trek to Honduras fifteen years ago. I remember going that first year, thanking the Lord for inviting me, and being glad I was home when it was over with. To be quite honest, I don’t like bugs (especially the big eight-legged ones!), the sticky heat and the long work hours. I was told by Steve Long, our team captain, that I need only return if the Lord called me…well, I’ve been back every year …and yes, every year still takes effort…I still don’t like those things but the blessings of touching the lives of others outweighs any discomfort I face.

Ironically, on Buddy’s first trip, he announced neither of us would go back because conditions were so bad…apparently he doesn’t like those things either, but he has been returning every year too. Three years ago, Buddy began sensing God was calling us to a deeper commitment, so I sent Buddy over there for 2 months to get it out of his system. I wasn’t convinced we were called as missionaries. Not then anyway, but I am now. How do I know? After nearly three years of battling with not going, I was convicted last summer during a Bible study on Esther. It happened at the part where Mordeccai asks Esther, “What if God placed you here for such a time as this?” At that moment, I knew. I discussed my conviction with Buddy but no one else, not even the board. Yet, within three weeks, we received a call from, Russell Patterson, who serves on the Honduras Baptist Mission Board asking us again to go… and the rest is history.

As we finish up final arrangements for the move and begin settling into our new quarters, we covet your prayers as we will be working in His strength, not our own. We are leaving three precious daughters in the states. Melissa, 24 is married to Jamie Cox and they have purchased our home as theirs. Maggie, 22 is married to Brian Unites as of the 10th of this month. They will be living right outside of Boiling Springs city limits in an apartment. Meghan, 20 is in her third year of college and lives with Melissa. You might want to pray a little harder for Jamie having two of the girls although our girls are very close, especially with our move, and will probably be seen together frequently as they draw strength through the Lord in one another. Meghan summed it up nicely when she was asked once what she thought about her parents moving to Honduras. She said, “It will be hard and we will miss them but we know they are doing what God has called them to do in Honduras.” All three girls have been to Honduras on many occasions supporting the mission work there and will continue to be actively involved both at home and in Honduras. I praise God my sons-in-laws and extended families are equally as supportive and taking up some of the slack while we are away.

It will be through us all being obedient to pray both here and in Honduras and following through with a servant’s heart that God will touch lives, saving folks from sickness and eternal separation from Him. Pray for those we minister to, our Honduran staff, our American team members, our families and us. We will pray for you and God’s direction in your lives. Please send us your prayer requests as well and we will be fellow prayer warriors for you, especially including the names or initials of loved ones who may not be assured of their salvation. For it is written, “…That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. Matthew 18:19-20.

Stayed tuned, as we will try to keep you up-to-date on the news from His works in Honduras through a monthly newsletter that will be posted on www.medicaldental.org.

In Him,
Pastor Buddy and Meredith Morehead
